Personal Growth: If You Have To Fall, Fall Forward!

I recently started reading Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor’s book My Stroke of Insight about her stroke, recovery and the discovery of herself. (I highly recommend it).  In the early chapters Jill, a Harvard Medical School brain scientist, explains how there is less than a 1% difference in each or our DNA structure.

That impressed me. Think about it for a moment such a minute difference, percentage wise and yet we are all different-based upon insignificant variations. As awesome as our individual uniqueness is, today I want to focus on and speak to you about how alike we really are, that is, about the 99+% we all share. Affirmation statements -we hear them spoken often by motivational speakers, authors, writers etc., but what can we personally do to harness the power of affirmations in our own lives?

Think about a time in your life when you desired to make a change ” something major, like finding a new job, moving to a new city or home, or something less momentous like a New Years resolution to improve your overall health. Can you think of a past experience like that? Now, think about the tools that you used or steps that you took to help guide you through that transition and keep you focused on achieving your goals while making that change. I think that you’ll agree that, not everyone takes planning their lives seriously, but that doesn’t mean that YOU shouldn’t—and you really should.
